The room was lively, and the wait staff fluttered as butterflies in a garden of hungry flowers.
Brussels sprouts leaves,
over toasted to the edge of burnt
swirled in a sweet apricot glaze
pushing a sticky reduced sauce

Broccolini has a layer of flavors
both sweet and salty.
The egg had potential,
but it was not runny enough
to coat the dish, the silky flavor
was loss in the cream.
The wild rice and lentils added texture and structure to the dish,
making it a hearty meal that could have been served as a main course.
The chicken rested on mashed potatoes
alone hardy enough to hold the fig and apricots.
The chicken was juicy and nicely smoked
yet, the skin was chewy and not pleasant to the bite.
The balance of balsamic reduction was very strong,
and battled on the palate like a cock fight
the sweetness of the figs that were meaty
with the bitter punch of the vinegar.

I ended the night with a black Manhattan at the bar
